Journey - Part 2

 DAY 10

"1st TOUR: LUBANG BUAYA"

DAY 10 - Our first tour. We went to their national park wherein the 5 great generals were killed then put inside a waterless well.

The three SEA Teachers and student buddies. Our first destination for the tour is the Lubang Buaya. In here, I discovered more about the notable people who took some part in Indonesian history. I enjoyed walking around while looking at the statues, miniatures, and pictures in this place because they have a really rich history in fighting for their independence against outsiders and the communist political party.

(The well in the middle is where the 5 generals put after they killed them. It is a waterless well. However, the authorities remove their remains in here and put them in the hero's cemetery before they made this place a national park.)

Terimakasih, Pak Azhar and Pak Daffa for giving me this pamphlet. 😊

After touring around Lubang Buaya, we went back to Uhamka. After a few minutes, Elly, Ian, me and Pak Daffa went to Mal Cijantung to buy some blanket for me because I left my blanket in Uhamka Boarding School at Jonggol. The picture below is me and Pak Daffa while waiting for Ian and Elly buying some batik clothes.

 DAY 11

"2nd TOUR: TAMAN MINI INDONESIA INDAH (TMII)"

DAY 11 - We went to the miniature-like country of Indonesia in TMII.

Before we entered the place, we waited for so long at the entrance gate. There were so many people going inside and that made us stay at the entrance gate for a long time. I also got my arms sunburned because of that. 😭 In spite of that, we were able to get inside. We met a lot of exchange students across Indonesia, and we had a socio-cultural activity. We were divided into different groups to go inside the museum then present what we learned in front of our fellow exchange students.

Above are my groupmates. We are the 4th group. We went inside the museum together. But I got separated from them because a man who knows a lot about Indonesian history accompanied me to roam around the museum to fully understand what their history could offer to a foreign individual like me. I really enjoyed listening to him and I was able to know the connection between Southeast Asian countries, especially the Philippines, Indonesia, and Malaysia.

(Zatira, Me, Elly, Pak Azhar, Ian, Pak Daffa)

Inside the museum, an ambience of past and present met. In here, I saw the reach cultures and history of Indonesia. Starting from the dragon map of the country, wood sculptures, puppet show, maskara, and more.

 DAY 12

"BACK TO UBS IN JONGGOL"

DAY 12 - I need to go back to Uhamka Boarding School for my teaching internship.

I arrived at Uhamka Boarding School in Jonggol late because there was no available driver in the morning. But we had some conversations with the students, and we played badminton.

✈✈✈✈✈✈✈✈✈✈

 DAY 13

"LESSON PLANNING"

DAY 13 - I made my lesson plan for my official demo teaching as SEA Teacher.

I requested for a sample copy of my Resource Teacher’s lesson plan to see the format that they are currently using. He then asked me to decide which format I will use. Then, he gave me my topic for my teaching demonstration on the next day. I made my Lesson Plan based on the format of our university, 4As, because it was easier for me. After making it, Mr. Fendy and Mr. Fajar checked my lesson plan and gave some suggestions about the ending part. At night, I finalized my lesson plan and made a Bahasa version of it so that Mr. Fendy can understand it clearer.

 DAY 14

"OFFICIAL DEMO TEACHING"

DAY 14 - My official demo teaching has arrived. In here, I prepared everything so that there won't be any program during my discussion.

I did my teaching in 9th Grade for the Geography subject. The students are not so many, and they prefer to just sit on the floor. I started my teaching through praying then greeting them, asking how they are feeling and with a prayer. After that, we had a lot of fun activities while also explaining the concepts because I used the Short Video Analysis, Question and Answer, and Guess the Word teaching-leaning strategy.

As I move forward to my discussion, I also tried speaking in Bahasa and Mr. Fendy also discussed some of the concepts in Bahasa to make the students understand it better.

(Students presenting their output for the Pick a Color with a Twist activity)

Guess the Word activity made the students enjoy the discussion of the topic because while we are having a game, they are also learning at the same time. Then as an application of what they’ve learned, the students made a proposal project on how to protect and preserve the planet Earth. They did the activity for 5-8 minutes then submitted their papers to me afterwards. I also gave them an assignment called “Pen-Pal” wherein they will write what they learned from my discussion and what they wanted to tell me.

At night, all teachers and staffs gathered around for a formal meeting concerning the school and upcoming activities. The meeting was led by the headmaster of Uhamka Boarding School, Mr. Rizki Amrillah. After that, we took a picture together.

 DAY 15

"GOING BACK TO FKIP UHAMKA "

DAY 15 - My Resource Teacher and other teachers don't have a class on this day because someone from FKIP will review the students.

I observed Mr. Fendy's class in Geography subject in the morning. I tried understanding their books with the help of Google Translate. In here, I was really mesmerized on how the education in Indonesia works because they teach the students using their local language, unlike in the Philippines that uses English in all subjects except Filipino and Mother Tongue subjects.

While waiting for the FKIP students, Pak Fendy treated us some Mixue ice cream. It's their salary day. 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊

When the students don't have a class anymore, they came inside the Teachers' Room. We had a lot of conversations in here. They also told me the books that they are reading written by the famous Indonesian author. I also witnessed their skills in editing videos. I guess, they are really enjoying what they are doing while staying inside the boarding school. Ammar gave me some nangka too 😌😋 (I badly want to eat nangka again because its been like years since I last eat nangka in my country huhu)

After their prayer at 4:00 pm, Bu Tivia, Bu Jeanie, Pak Fajar, and I went to Jakarta. It was their schedule to go home, so I tag along with them in going back to FKIP Uhamka. While we are on the road, the rain caught us in Cileungsi. So, we stop by for a moment to wait for the heavy rain to stop.

When we are in Cibubur, we went to a famous restaurant wherein many riders drop to eat. We ordered some soup noodles and half-baked pancong (pancake). I really liked their pancong in here. 😭😭💓 Now I know why many people loved eating here. After having dinner, we went straight to Uhamka to drop me in there, then they also went to their homes in Jakarta.

✈✈✈✈✈✈✈✈✈✈

 DAY 16

"CONSTRUCTED TEST QUESTIONS"

DAY 16 - To accomplish my Table of Specifications, I talked to my Resource Teacher to make test questions.

I came back to Uhamka because my Resource Teacher doesn’t have a class in this day. Students from Uhamka went to UBS to review the students for their examination again. So, I constructed the test items/questions in the subjects Geography 10 and 11, as well as History 11 that my Resource Teacher asked me to do.

After that, Bu Jeanie picked me up in Uhamka then Bu Tivia and Pak Fajar waited us in PGC. We watched a movie and buy some Batik polo here. We watch the 172 Days movie. There was no English translation but thanks to Pak Fajar, he almost made a transcipt for me to understand the movie. 😁😂

We all cried at the end of the movie because the male lead died. We all felt the sadness and longing of his wife. Their dream house was already finished but it was that time that her husband was not there anymore. 😢😢😭💔

After the movie, we bought Batik polo for my brother and some perfumes for all of us. The Perfume Store has a promo during this time. Buy 2 20ml and you'll get 20ml free. So I bought 1, Bu Tivia bought 1, and we had 1 free. Bu Tivia gave me the 1 free perfume. She let me choose the scent. Terimakasih, Bu.😊

We went to Bu Jeanie's home to have dinner there because she invited us there. I met her mother and sister in here. They served a lot of food and I really appreciate Bu Jeanie and her Umi's cooking.

(Some appetizers)

After the movie, shopping, and eating, we all went home. (In FKIP Uhamka Dormitory for me 😂)

✈✈✈✈✈✈✈✈✈✈

 DAY 17

"3rd TOUR: THAMRIN CITY AND INDONESIA KAYA"

DAY 17 - Supposedly, we will go to PGC in here to buy some batik. But I requested if we could go somewhere, not PGC anymore, because we just went here yesterday.

This is the road going to Thamrin City. The ambience is very metropolitan. Below is our photo inside the Thamrin City. We bought a lot of Batik in here but a little bit expensive, yet the quality is good. When our tummy rumbled, we went to KFC to eat lunch. We were accompanied by Pak Azhar, Nanda, and Tira in this tour.

We also went to Indonesia Kaya. It's like a children's gallery because it is a digitalized gallery. So far, the experience here is good because we had the chance to sit and talked to one another after the tiring walk from Thamrin City to Indonesia Kaya. 😄

(From left to right: Mr. Nanda, Zatira, Ian, Me, Elly, and Pak Azhar)

(This is us when we were able to sit for a moment and talked wkwkwk)

(The view beside this building)

We went to the Play Station as well before we went back to Uhamka. I just bought a card costs 550,000 Rupiah. 😐 But it's fine. I enjoyed playing and I was able to win this in the Claw Machine. 💓

Before we left this place, we bought this local food. A mixture of rice, meat floss, and others. It was tasty and made me full even if I only had a few bites.

✈✈✈✈✈✈✈✈✈✈

 DAY 18

"4th TOUR: RAGUNAN ZOO"

DAY 18 - We visited their zoo and we also met new set of exchange students deployed in Uhamka.

We saw different kinds of animals in this Zoo. One of which is the Giraffe in the image. It was actually my first time seeing this animal in reality. Also, we saw the animal that only existed in Indonesia, the Komodo. I heard a lot of Komodo during our Geography class. Mr. Fajar shared me the characteristics of this animal. As I saw it in the zoo, I bought a ref magnet and shirt souvenir with Komodo picture as remembrance.

✈✈✈✈✈✈✈✈✈✈

 DAY 19

"NOT ON THE LIST BUT WE WENT TO ROCKY MOUNTAIN"

DAY 19 - Pak Azhar, Ellyza, and Florian came with me at UBS to visit the school. We all talked together and had a lunch. Unexpectedly, we visited the Rocky Mountain in Jonggol despite raining.

My SEA Teacher colleagues, Pak Azhar Nawawi, and I traveled to Jonggol by car. When we arrived, the UBS teachers welcomed and greet them warmly. We talked together inside the faculty room to know more about one another while enjoying the traditional foods of Jonggol that UBS teachers have prepared. I also toured my friends in the school for them to see the classrooms and facilities of Uhamka Boarding School.

In the afternoon,
we ate lunch together in a banana leaf (Nasi Liwet) like a “boodle fight” in Filipino term.   Then, we went to Rocky Mountain located in Jonggol as well, but we traveled 30 minutes to reach that tourist attraction. Mr. Fajar, Mr. Fihri, and Mr. Fendy came with us.

We drink some hot coffee and noodles when we arrived there because it was cold and still raining when we arrived. When the rain stopped, we captured lovely photos with the mountain for us to remember that moment in Indonesia. Lastly, we went back to Boarding School while my friends and Mr. Azhar went back to Uhamka.

✈✈✈✈✈✈✈✈✈✈

 DAY 20

"EXAMINATION WEEK"

DAY 20 - I helped in facilitating the students' examination.

I supervised the students who are taking their examination inside the faculty room. While doing that, I was also answering my Episodes 4,5,6 for my Teaching Internship in Uhamka Boarding School.

In the afternoon, we shoot a testimony video about my teaching experiences in their school. The students in the picture are the people who took the video. In the video, I introduced myself, shared my teaching and living experiences in the school, and what can I say about the teachers and students in Uhamka Boarding School.

(Short video with the students who shoot the video with me)

At night, we went to Alun-Alun again. Here are the streetfoods that we bought because I told Bu Jeanie and Tivia that I want to try them before I go back to Uhamka on weekend.

✈✈✈✈✈✈✈✈✈✈

 DAY 21

"CHECKING STUDENTS' PAPERS"

DAY 20 - Mr. Fendy, my Resource Teacher, gave me the students' papers to be checked after their quarterly examination.

At 6 am (Philippine Standard time), our Field Study Professor, Prof. Sonny Rae Fernando, from our university (MMSU, Philippines), checked up on us. We talked about the important documents that needs to be accomplished before our last day.

After this, I went to Teachers' Room. I checked the papers of the students of my Resource Teacher’s four (4) classes. He gave me the answer key so that I can check each papers thoroughly. One of the students also helped me in checking the papers of the students.

In the afternoon, the parent of one student who has a birthday on this day invited us to go in their home for lunch.

At the same time, when the student's examination is done, the student committee who are in-charge of the Podcast prepared the needed equipment and the place to be used. Together with them is Mr. Fajar who also helped in setting up the technical devices. Unfortunately, heavy rainfall with thunders made the electricity went off for many times. That’s why we need to re-schedule the shooting of the podcast for the other day.

✈✈✈✈✈✈✈✈✈✈

 DAY 22

"SHOOT A PODCAST EPISODE"

DAY 22 - The students' examination has ended. On this day, the weather is good, so we grab this chance to shoot the podcast.

Every Thursday, the students and teachers wear their Batik clothes. To blend in, I also wore the Batik dress that I bought in Thamrin City.

I continued checking the papers of the students inside the Faculty Room. In the afternoon, the students and I finally shoot the Podcast. Together with me in the Podcast is Afdi, the one who can almost talk in English fluently. I wore my Batik dress in here. I feel so happy wearing it. 😊😊😊

At night, the students had a conversation with me. I can see in their faces the happiness of talking to me before confidently had a conversation with me using the English language. Then, Bu Jea, Tiv, Pak Fendy, and I went outside to buy some Mixue ice cream. This was actually my last Mixue here. 😔😔😔😔

(Terimakasih, Pak Fendy. For treating us Mixue ice cream again)

✈✈✈✈✈✈✈✈✈✈

 DAY 23

"MY LAST FRIDAY IN UHAMKA BOARDING SCHOOL"

DAY 23 - I felt really sad. Also, I can feel how sad the people are because this was my last week with them. 😔

Some of the teachers went to Tangerang, another province in Indonesia, to attend a workshop. One of them is my Resource Teacher here, Mr. Fendy Arief. Since the students’ examination is over, there’s no classes for students for this day as it is like their rest day. Bu Jeanie and I went to the faculty room to continue our paper works. During lunch time, Athar, Rafi, Mas Tamim, and Bu Lily came to the kitchen. In here, we have a chat about my favorite music that I heard when Bu Jeanie was playing it. I'm stuck with the song "Hati-Hati Di Jalan". It has a good melody. 💜

The UHAMKA car also picked me up at UBS Jonggol because I need to stay at Uhamka, Jakarta during weekends for our tour activities. Unfortunately, when they arrived, I need to wait until 3:00 pm because 2 of those students from FKIP will go back to Jakarta.

(I waited inside the car for so long because I thought we'll leave at 2 pm but it's actually 3 pm😔)

We arrived at FKIP Uhamka at past 5:00 pm. I put my things in the dormitory then went to Ma'am Nova's office as instructed by Pak Daffa. After seeing that I arrived safely, I requested if we could go to buy some perfume. Guess what? They agreed. So, we rode the motorcycle and went to the cheapest yet good quality perfume at Nine Perfume store.

Actually, I bought the perfumes as gift to Pak Daffa, Pak Dimas, and Pak Nanda for their kindness, guidance and patience to us. They stay late at night just to accommodate us. They are our student-buddies who are one call away.  Pak, thank you for waiting for me until I arrived safely at FKIP Uhamka. Thank you for the coffee and tea whenever I'm inside the office. Thank you for the snakefruit too. It was my first time eating it.

(When we bought lele (fried mudfish) near the campus for dinner)
